BLACKPINK, consisting of members Jennie, Rose, Lisa, and Jisoo, is a group formed by YG Entertainment. They released their first performance video in early July and made their debut on August 8, 2016. After the release of their debut single album, Square One, it charted at Nos. 1 and 2 on the Billboard US World Digital Songs chart. Only thirteen days later, the group won first place on Inkigayo, breaking the record for the shortest time for a girl group to win a music program following their debut.
BLACKPINK released their second album, Square Two, in November of that same year. The single “Playing with Fire” reached No. 1 on the Billboard US World Digital Songs chart, and the group won a number of awards that year, including at the Asia Artist Awards, Seoul Music Awards, and Melon Music Awards. In June 2017, BLACKPINK released their single “As If It’s Your Last,” which quickly climbed the Billboard charts, making it the highest-charting Korean song in America at the time.
In 2018, the group released their first EP, Square Up. Its lead single, “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” peaked at No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, and its music video became the second most-viewed music video on YouTube in the first 24 hours.
The group began their sold-out “Blackpink Arena Tour 2018” in Japan, and later that year, they performed at their first concert in Seoul. After their 2018 collaboration with Dua Lipa, "Kiss and Make Up," received global success, the girl group signed with Interscope Records in partnership with YG Entertainment.
BLACKPINK then made their American debut at the Grammy Artist Showcase in 2019. Following the release of their second EP, Kill this Love, the group performed at Coachella, making them the first female K-pop group to do so.
As the group prepared for their next release, YG Entertainment announced BLACKPINK's second reality show, 24/365 with Blackpink. The show followed Jennie, Rose, Jisoo, and Lisa’s daily life as they prepared for their 2020 comeback. Later that year, they released their first Korean studio album, The Album, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
They released their first documentary, Blackpink: Light Up the Sky, via Netflix in October 2020, and in August 2021, they released Blackpink: The Movie, which was shown in theaters worldwide. In July 2022, the group announced their next studio record, Born Pink, would be released on September 16th, and their second world tour is set to begin in October 2022.
