Screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns sits down with Consequence of Sound‘s Editor-in-Chief Michael Roffman to discuss the new World War I epic, 1917. Together, the two chat about how she co-wrote the screenplay with director Sam Mendes, why World War I is often ignored in film, and how her long history with comic books helped aide her writing.
Based in part on an account told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather, Alfred Mendes, 1917 chronicles the breakneck story of two young British soldiers at the height of World War I during the spring of 1917. The two are given the arduous task of delivering a vital message to a British battalion, who are hours away from walking right into a deadly trap: a German ambush that will claim the lives of over 1,600 soldiers.
